Combinatorial micronutrition against bone loss and fracture risk

A new study published in the European Journal of Nutrition showed a combination of soy isoflavone genistein, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins D3 and K1 to prevent osteoporosis and reduce fracture risk in the hip of postmenopausal women.

The 6-month double-blind pilot study, which was conducted in 70 subjects, showed that postmenopausal women supplemented with the specific microcombination GBB (for geniVidaTM bone blend) maintained a better status of bone mineral density in the hip, compared to those only supplemented with calcium. The authors conclude that such a microcombinatorial supplementation could prevent osteroporosis and reduce fracture risk, at least at the hip, in postmenopausal women. In particular, it could offer a non-pharmaceutical alternative for osteroporosis prevention in general.
